April Wexelman is a respected instructor, coach, and choreographer. She currently works for Dance Masters of America as a master teacher and adjudicator, Youth American Grand Prix, and Westlake School for the Performing Arts. She was the director of the YAGP training program and Raise the Barre elite ballet training program at the Rock Center for Dance, as well as on staff at UNLV and Las Vegas School for the Performing Arts. April is originally from Los Angeles. There she was a California Arts Scholar, trained two years with Houston Ballet Academy, and also with Kirov Academy in Washington DC. She has performed lead roles in Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Stars and Stripes, and The Nutcracker. April danced with Malibu Ballet, Conejo Civic Ballet, Phyzix Dance, and F13RCE Dance Theatre and has an undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University and is a graduate from Jacksonville University with her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography. April is also certified in Mat Pilates and Pilates for Ballet Dancers. She has also taught at: Fern Adair Conservatory, Douglas Anderson School for the Performing Arts, La Villa School for the Performing Arts, Jacksonville University, Florida State College, F13RCE Dance Theatre, among others. Her students have vaulted into professional careers all over the world. Many of her students fill the ranks of major ballet companies and training programs including: Houston Ballet, Ballet Met, Hubbard Street, The Royal Danish Ballet training program, SAB year-round, and Houston Ballet Pre-Pro. Her students span careers from Cirque du Soleil, Royal Caribbean, Commercial work in LA as well as many of the major ballet companies. Students under her tutelage have had wonderful success at YAGP including: Hope Award, Studio Award, Choreography Awards, and 1st place ensembles. 1st place duets, as well as top 12 placements at NY Finals, and a top 3 NY Final for Contemporary Pas Deux.
